The major drawback of car travel is that you can’t fit a very large unit inside a small trunk. If you have a sport utility vehicle you are in a slightly better position, but you are still pressed for space. In general, you want a tabletop unit if you intend to transport it in a car, and perhaps a small floor unit if you’re using an SUV. If you have a large unit like a custom stand, you don’t want to try putting it in the car.

If You Travel By Van Or Truck

Trucks and vans have the same advantage as a car, but offer slightly more space. You can usually rent these if your company doesn’t have them, and they are typically big enough to fit your average trade show displays. Because they can be rented, you may choose to use them on the occasion that you have a local show within driving distance, shipping commercially when it’s more convenient.

If You Travel By Airplane

Airplanes are possibly the most common method of transportation for serious convention presenters. If your company uses trade show exhibits as a backbone of your marketing program, you’re going to be traveling to both coasts and probably to other countries as part of your plan. If your units will be going on a plane, they need to be small enough that they’ll fit easily in cargo, or as a carryon. It is rare to see anything larger than a banner stand or pop up unit fit into carryon, as the size restrictions are very harsh.

Placing trade show booths in checked luggage is not a problem, provided they are adequately protected. Checked luggage is notoriously mistreated by the baggage handlers, so you’ll need a hard-sided case in order to keep your stand safe.

If You Are Planning To Ship

For some oversized stands, shipping is the best (or only) option. Shipping can be a hassle, but sometimes the unit is just too large to be realistically transported any other way. Try to avoid using a typical shipping company, and instead seek out one with experience transporting convention materials. If possible, find one with a national network of shipping hubs, so that it travels purely in the hands of experienced professionals.

There’s really three ways to find a job.

1. Make a contact at a company you want to work for and hope he/she hires you.
2. Fill out an application when you see the “Now Hiring” ad or sign.
3. Become an expert in your field and have them come to you.

We’ll concentrate on the first one and the third one. The first one requires you to know what company you’d like to work for. That’s where we start. If you do know what company you want to work for, search Facebook and LinkedIn for that company. Write down the names of the people you find, click on their profile and see what you can learn before you “friend” them. Then search the internet for the company and find ALL the people you can find that work for that company. Write them down and take notes on their positions, ideas, websites, etc. . .

Then go to Twitter. Search for those people on Twitter and “follow” them all. They all won’t be on Twitter – but follow the ones you can find. Then search Twitter and follow anyone talking about that company. That’s the first step. Now you have an audience of people who know about, work for, or like the company you want to work for. How to Find a Job During the Recession

So you’re out of work in these troubling times and you need to find a job PRONTO. What to do?

First off, mentally resolve to TAKE ACTION and not allow depression to prevent you from doing the necessary work involved in attaining employment. Resolve and action can and will overcome depression.

Secondly, understand that now is not the time to hold unrealistic expectations. Millions of jobs have been lost and millions more are on the way. If you are used to having your own office, don’t reject a job just because you’ll be at a cubicle.

Third, make the act of finding a job, your full time job. Get on the same schedule as if you already had the job and work at it at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Be consistent. Stick with it, no matter what. Don’t be like a child needing instant gratification. Nobody is telling you it’s going to be easy. In fact, expect it to be difficult.

Have goals for yourself, day to day and week to week. All successful people will tell you the importance of goals as well as reviewing your performance in contrast to those goals. Have daily weekly and monthly goals. How many applications do you intend to put in? How many in person? How many online? How many resumes will you send out? How many interviews?

As funny as this might sound; have a weekly meeting with yourself for the purpose of performance evalution. Actually write two reports for your weekly meeting with yourself. A) What you have accomplished this week. B) What you intend to accomplish next week. Describe the results that this effort has produced. And compare these results with what you wanted to have.

In this “meeting” take an honest look at what you accomplished compared to what you had planned on accomplishing; and make out your plans for next week.

Do this week in and week out and do not give up. The week you give up, could be the week you could have gotten hired if only you had kept going. If you read the biographies of the ultra-successful, one of the most recurring themes is perseverance, including in the face of adversity. One thing is certain, if you quit, you will never find work.

Finally, don’t be afraid to try something new. For instance, I have been able to make money on the internet and I find tremendous satisfaction in helping others to do the same.
